چکیده

The incidence of fungal urinary tract infections has risen gradually and thus constituted a public health challenge. aim this study was to determine the prevalence by fungi in two centres Ojo, Lagos. A total 200 patients attending centers constituting 160 males’ urines 40 females’ vaginal swabs were recruited for study. Midstream urine samples aseptically collected processed using standard mycological techniques. Fungal isolates identified based on cultural characteristics, lactophenol blue stain, chlamydospore formation, colony colour CHROM agar Candida medium API yeast identification. Antifungal susceptibility testing performed Broth dilution Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion methods most commonly used antifungal agents. 122 isolates, which 68 (55.7%) spp. 54(44.3%) Aspergillus recovered. included 64 (52.5%) C. albicans 4(3.3%) glabrata while A. flavus, 20(16.4%), fumigatus, 24 (19.8%) niger, 10(8.2%). common pathogens tracts subjects fumigatus. Both fumigatus highly susceptible both fluconazole amphotericin B dimethyl sulphoxide water (90-100%). Similarly, all antifungals except flavus showed slight resistance (10-15%), appears be emerging. still show high chances therapeutic efficacy against tracts.

Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns In Community Acquired Urinary Tract Infections.

BACKGROUND Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most frequent disease for which patients seek medical care. The antimicrobial agents causing UTI and their sensitivity patterns have remarkably changed throughout the world over the past few years. Hence, the present study was designed to explore the uropathogens and their susceptibility to various molecules in our region. METHODS This descripti...

Anti-Microbial Resistance of Enterococci Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections in Iran

Background: During the last decade, enterococci have become important nosocomial pathogens, representing the second leading cause of urinary tract infections. This increasing prevalence has been paralleled by the occurrence of multi-drug resistant (MDR) and high-level gentamicin resistant (HLGR) strains. Methods: From September 2005 to 2006, a total of 638 enterococcal isolates were collected ...

Epidemiology of shigellosis in Lagos, Nigeria: trends in antimicrobial resistance.

Antimicrobial susceptibility of Shigella spp. and Escherichia coli, isolated from diarrhoeal patients in Lagos, was studied from March 1999 to February 2000. Four hundred fifty-nine isolates were identified as shigellae (62) and E. coli (397). Shigella flexneri, S. dysenteriae, S. boydii, and S. sonnei accounted, respectively, for 51.6%, 17.7%, 17.7%, and 13% of the total number of shigellae is...

Antimicrobial resistance among uropathogens that cause community-acquired urinary tract infections in women: a nationwide analysis.

Current recommendations for empirical therapy for community-acquired urinary tract infection (UTI) in women hinge on knowledge of antimicrobial susceptibility patterns in the geographic region of the practitioner. We conducted a survey of antimicrobial susceptibilities of 103,223 isolates recovered from urine samples that were obtained in 1998 from female outpatients nationally and within 9 geo...
